Last week, I watched a brilliant documentary created by Jonah Hill (remember that big guy from Wolf of Wall Street?) called Stutz.
The documentary focuses on Jonah’s therapy journey and, more specifically, his therapist – Phil Stutz (hence, the title). The movie is replete with mental models from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT, for short) that help to improve patients’ lives now, not sometime in the distant future.
(As Stutz recalls, he frequently disagreed with his colleagues that therapists must nod understandingly and instead decided to focus his life’s work on coming up with practical tools that his clients can start using from day one.)
I am not going to share all mental models from that movie – I suggest you take 1.5 hours from your life and watch it; it’s worth it – but I will stress one particular tool I found helpful for me.
Stutz calls it Life Force.
